Given this is the first entry in my blog, I should really introduce myself. However given I'm writing this blog because I'm bored, I might just dispense with the details and get straight to the point. I'm a reasonably contented, well-adjusted guy that's sorted out most of his life in his short 38 years on earth. Job, house, girlfriend and the looming prospect of settled life and family. Okay I don't have a dog or a car, but in Hong Kong those are things I have chosen to do without because I don't have time to raise a well-adjusted dog or because I prefer not to melt the icecaps and would like to set an example for others. I've ticked most of the things off the list you're expected to get through by this time of life. As a semi-intelligent human, I also find bemusing most of the goals other people tend to set themselves at this stage (e.g. promotion, extreme physical challenges, expensive toys, etc.) If you haven't worked it out by now, I find I'm getting quite bored.
So, the time is ripe to do something completely pointless that nevertheless gives the impression of a semi-arduous endeavour during which I will meditate on the state of the world and perhaps crack open the door of introspection and enlightenment. This will allow me to throw off nutty truisms like a sparkler and serve as an inspiration (ie. not boring) for others. Ha ha - having talked about it I now feel as if I've accomplished it so I better stop here and come back to earth.
Okay here's the plan. I'm going to walk around Hong Kong island and will document my travels on a blog with words, pictures and video. I'm going to start at the post office in Central, the spiritual heart of Hong Kong (no Hong Kong is not very spiritual), and go around anti-clockwise. Given I actually have a life and a day-job, I won't do it in one go, but will mark where I stop, and return to the same place and continue my journey, probably over successive weekends. For once I'm not going to plan anything out and will just start and see what happens.
Wish me luck.
